Empower Women to Escape Poverty – $1,000,000 Matching Donation
With our special year-end matching gift opportunity, every gift you make before December 31, will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $1 million! Your gift will not only help empower women to escape poverty in 2012, but will have twice the impact.
Last year CARE worked in 87 countries around the world, supporting 905 poverty-fighting projects to reach more than 82 million people, over half of whom are women.
With the generous support of people like you:
- We helped improve the health — and save the lives — of pregnant women, new mothers and their babies.
- We helped women access loans and start small businesses so they could provide for their families.
- We helped girls around the world go to school and worked with communities to improve education for all children.
- We delivered health and nutrition services to millions of children and their family members.
- We responded to natural disaster and emergencies, with an emphasis on meeting the needs of women, children and the elderly.
You can help us continue our lifesaving and life-changing work around the world with a tax-deductible donation today. Don’t forget that your gift that will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $1 million, through December 31.
Millions of people around the world still need our help today — and into the future.
CARE is on the ground continuing to provide emergency relief and support services in the Horn of Africa, where a severe drought and famine threatens the lives of 13 million people. Since the beginning of this emergency, we have helped almost 1.8 million people with lifesaving food, safe drinking water, shelter, education and counseling. We are working closely to help children and women in the refugee camps, all of whom have suffered tremendous loss, and many of whom have been subjected to rape and other forms of gender-based violence. And we’re working in drought-affected communities to help people with long-term solutions to chronic food insecurity.
In Niger, waves of drought could lead to a severe food crisis like the one that gripped the country in 2009-2010. Last year, women in drought-affected communities formed an association of cereal banks with the help of CARE to support each other and to rescue smaller cereal banks if they face shortages. Today, CARE is preparing to assist hundreds of thousands of people in Niger ahead of a possible catastrophe. We are in the process of developing school feeding programs, providing families cash to purchase food, making sure people can assess enough clean water and even helping farmers with animal fodder so that families do not lose their main source of income.
With our special matching gift offer, you’ll double the impact of your contribution! Give by December 31 and your gift will go twice as far to help girls get an education; women save money and start their own businesses; mothers and their babies survive pregnancy and childbirth; and so much more.
