Urban Ministry $40,000 Donation Match
In this past year, we preached the gospel to Ms. L, the mother of two who fled a bad relationship. After she lost her job and fell behind in her bills, she came to us when she was facing eviction. We provided case management and funding through our Homelessness Prevention program. With our help, she found a part-time and later a full-time job and an apartment. Thanks to this program, she and her children never spent a night in a homeless shelter or on the street.
Last year, with your support, we helped 131 other clients much like Ms. L.
…because the good news to a homeless person is a home.
One of our Joe Rush Center house painting clients is caring for her elderly, disabled mother. While they face difficult circumstances, they are proud of their home and happy to have help fixing it up. After a volunteer team from Madison, Alabama finished painting it, she was so overwhelmed she said, “Now when we come home, instead of going inside the house, we just sit out in the driveway sometimes and admire it.”
Meanwhile, one of the volunteers who helped paint a house over spring break said, “While were were painting this house, I just felt like this is the happiest I have ever been in my whole life.”
We have a really sharp third grader in our Urban Kids program named James. While he is a talented young man and an expressive reader, he struggles with basic addition and subtraction.
Our Summer Learning program this year will focus on stemming summer learning loss and helping third, fourth and fifth grade students like James get up to grade level in math and reading to prepare for the year ahead.
…because the good news to a struggling student is hope for their future.
Bringing the good news to people in Birmingham and in our West End community is something we are able to do at Urban Ministry because of the support you and people like you have given us over the years.
And this summer, you can increase your financial gift to Urban Ministry through our summer matching campaign.
Every donation you make now through August 31 up to $40,000 total will be matched dollar for dollar by the Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church Foundation,
making your contribution go farther and bringing the good news to more people.
And the money will be coming in during the typical ‘summer slump,’ when we most need the help.
Here’s how you can respond to the call:
• Ask a friend, neighbor, or coworker to participate with you.
• Take this request to your Sunday school class, book club, employer or other small group and ask them to make a donation.
Time is critical: the dollar-for-dollar match is only available until August 31.
Thanks to our partners at Vestavia Hills UMC Foundation and their $40,000 matching funds offer, there will never be a better time for you to give to Urban Ministry. To help us spread the good news to people like Ms. L, our Joe Rush client, or James. To the others like them who still need our ministry so desperately.
Please give prayerful consideration to this request and respond generously so we can share the good news.
